Robb started playing piano at age 6. By 10, he was playing national guilds and complex classical music. Around 12 years old he began desiring to play other music that didn’t require reading music, but was more of an improvisational way of playing. His classical teacher was unable to teach that, so he quit and taught himself guitar and then electric bass. Somewhat goofing off during his teen years, at 21 he decided to audition for Shenandoah University & Conservatory of Music as a classical guitarist. Accepted, he spent the first two years studying classical guitar. During this time he was introduced to the music of Charlie Parker. A mind-blowing experience to say the least. It was like all the things he heard and desired to be able to do musically was right there in that sound. Immediately he began to pursue jazz guitar, eventually switching his major to it. After a year and half of jazz guitar studies, all the while taking a minor in jazz piano, his piano teacher suggested he switch majors again to jazz piano. In doing so, Robb was able to tour Japan playing jazz piano with an ensemble. He has also performed with the late Bob Berg, saxophonist. Having covered the extensiveness of jazz from swing to bebop to avant-garde and free jazz.
Currently he teaches private lessons on piano, guitar and electric bass and performs as a sideman in various projects and when called upon for gigs both locally and regionally. He has been teaching since 1999 and has positively affected hundreds of students. He looks forward to teaching your student!
