Baxley Roberts
Baxley Roberts is a native of Jacksonville Florida. He was recently awarded a Bachelor of Music Education, with concentrations in instrumental and vocal studies, from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. While primarily a euphonium player, he has gained experience as a multi- instrumentalist and vocalist during his time as an undergraduate. For the past five years, Baxley served as a music intern for the congregation of Second Presbyterian Church of Homewood, Alabama. He has now settled down in Norfolk to start his teaching career as the Band and Choir Director at Southside STEM Academy at Campostella. In addition, Baxley is currently pursuing a Master of Music Education with a concentration in Wind Band Conducting at Old Dominion University.
William Erickson
William has studied internationally and domestically, taking part in Mostly Modern Festival (Saratoga Springs, NY); Boston University Tanglewood Institute (Lenox, MA); Corsi Internazionali di Perfezionamento (Cividale del Friuli, FVG, Italy); International Clarinet Association “ClarinetFest” in Orlando, FL and Knoxville, TN.
He is an active performer and educator in the Hampton Roads area. William works with groups such as Academy of Music in Norfolk, Norfolk Academy, Bay Youth Ensembles, Virginia Wind Symphony, and Tidewater Winds.
He received a Bachelor’s degree in Clarinet Performance from The Ohio State University, after studying with Caroline Hartig.
He has also studied and taken lessons with with Bill Kirkley (Wenham, MA); Monica Duncan (Newburyport, MA); Joe Sokol (Beverly, MA); Richard Shaughnessy (Boston, MA); Nicola Bulfone (Cividale del Friuli, FVG, Italy); Johnathan Cohler (Cambridge, MA); Alain Desgagné (Montréal, QC); Bill Jackson (Nashville, TN); Danbi Cho (Lenox, MA); and David Martins (Boston, MA).
Karen Jackson
Karen Jackson has 30 years of experience teaching students of different ages individual, small group and large group band classes. The majority of her teaching has been at The Williams School, a small private school in Norfolk where she taught and developed the band program for 22 years and she is currently Band Director at Norfolk Christian Upper School teaching middle and high school.
Karen also has been involved as an advocate and non-profit leader in the disability community and has a daughter who has autism. As Executive Director of Faith Inclusion Network and a strong advocate of her daughter, she has been involved with and volunteered with many organizations that support people with disabilities in our Hampton Roads community.
